There are several basketball coaches in Maine, but the most notable and successful is probably Cindy Blodgett. She grew up in Maine and played collegiately at the University of Maine, where she became the all-time leading scorer in school history. She went on to play professionally in the WNBA and overseas before returning to Maine to pursue a coaching career.
Blodgett started her coaching career as an assistant at her alma mater, the University of Maine, before being named the head coach in 2007. She struggled in her first few seasons, but eventually led the team to a conference championship in 2011, which was their first in over a decade. She was named the conference coach of the year for her efforts that season.
Blodgett continued to coach at Maine until 2016, when she resigned to pursue other coaching opportunities. She now serves as an assistant coach for the Indiana Fever of the WNBA. Despite her success as a coach, Blodgett is perhaps best known for her outstanding playing career and for being one of the most beloved athletes in Maine's history.
